Hey Nate, Good to see you still posting. My father was the Tillerman on the L-147 rolling out of Courtelyou and Flatbush Ave. He had to climb the ladder one time to pick up a man who had fallen onto the high wires and was fried. He said the guy was mushy and smelled horrible as one can imagine. He had to carry the guy, being careful to keep him as intact as possible and then dumped him down to other firemen waiting near the street. When he did so he lost it and puked all over the street in front of the crowd that had gathered. Kind of an ugly story but shows what the FDNY has to deal with some times. My Grandfather was highly placed in the Department. I opted not to join even though it was assumed I would and instead became a combat commander in the Strategic Air Command. Some ugly stories there but none I can share. Keep in contact and let's keep the Board active.
