Lesser Thanksgiving Traditions - Foot Races

Posted by Rich in Albuquerque451 on Saturday, November 18th 2023:

For many years the NY Athletic Club held a Thanksgiving Day walking foot race that started at City Hall in Manhattan, proceeded across the Brooklyn Bridge, out Flatbush Avenue and Ocean Parkway ending in Coney Island. My father discovered this sometime in the early 1940'5 late 1930's and attended every year. He would drive across the bridge and park on the street and we would watch the racers warm up then follow the last racers across the bridge and park somewhere along the route. This continued until sometime in the Lindsey Administration. Only once as a child did I see the Parade in person. Any other traditions/memories out there?
