The available daily papers were two editions of The Daily News, The Mirror, The New York Times, The Journal American, The Telegram (the last two of which I think were afternoon papers), and The Brooklyn Eagle, the costs of which were 2-5 cents. (The Daily News currently runs $3., daily, and $3.50 on Sunday. A half cigar box atop the papers was for the deposit of coins for the papers, of course, on the honor system. The rectangular stand was not only for the local readers, but a hang-out/meeting place for kids.
