Also at the Church Avenue BMT station: salted Spanish peanuts; a fair amount for five cents. Every so often I buy a can of Planter's for the happy memory... and taste. A piece of Dentyne gum was always a fresh tasting treat from another dispenser. One time, at the Newark Avenue plaza, in late 1956, I tried to throw the peanuts to the pigeons. To my shock they started swarming onto my hand and i thought i was done for as a 12 year old. Fortunately, I tossed the remainder as far as I could and they all went diving for the remainder.
