Although it's a little post-Holiday season, I always recall the A&S Department store in downtown Brooklyn. Because the building at the time ('50s and '60s) was vintage Victorian, each floor's ceiling height got higher from the first to the upper floors. Each floor, especially the first, was beautifully and lavishly decorated. All seasons were recognized, but Christmas was the most elaborate. Santa's Workshop was on an upper level, and the lines were very long. In those days, we didn't have theme parks. We, thanks to A&S, had some theme places like this and other stores. Macy's (down on Flabush Ave) and May's Holiday decor couldn't hold a candle to A&S. Overall, their prices were above my budget. But the experience was so enjoyable. And it was FREE!
