Lottie, I wanted to respond to your comment about Thanksgivings in the past. The last Thanksgiving that I spent in Brooklyn, as a full time resident, was in 1971. I remember that weekend was bitterly cold, and there was snow on the ground. Our large heavy plastic garbage barrels were placed out on the curb, on Avenue H, for the NYC Dept. of Sanitation to collect. However, because of the cold, and the weight of the barrels, when the Sanitation man lifted one of them up, the barrel split in half, and the contents, including a number of large turkey bones, fell onto the snow. The Sanitation man, to put it mildly, was not too pleased, as he had to pick up those turkey bones (and other contents), by hand. I'll never forget the hostile look that he extended towards our home. I still tell that story to family and friends.
