When I was a kid I hung out at Kings Lanes near Flatbush and Farragut. The bowlers in the adult league liked to find out what "The Number" was for the day. They would give me a quarter and I would run to the Junction (Flatbush and Nostrand), buy a Daily News which arrived around ten PM or so and run back to the bowling lanes. They would open the paper and check the number. Once somebody
hit the number and it probably wasn't worth it because they would have to buy a round for their fellow bowlers. I got to keep the change from the quarter.
