My older sister Marilyn and I shared a burgundy and cream Schwinn bike with the thumb-bell on the handlebar, but I, being somewhat of a tomboy, was the one who used it daily. I never had a flat. My favorite jaunt on it was riding from Marine Park through the alleyways, parallel to Fillmore Avenue, that went uninterrupted, except for streets, for about five blocks. Each alleyway had a big dip when entering and a corresponding high rise when exiting, like a mini rollercoaster ride. What a rush! I think it's been mentioned here about clothes-pinning playing cards on the spokes.
