Posted by Rich in Albuquerque on Friday, December 16th 2022:

It was on this date that two airliners collided over New York and a United DC-8 jetliner came down in Park Slope. We remember eleven year old Steven Baltz who survived the collision and the fall only to pass a day later from his injuries. Six Brooklynites on the ground perished including the 90-year old caretaker of the Pillar of Fire Church and a Boy Scout Unit Commissioner and two men who were selling Christmas Trees. It was the first of two Fifteen Alarm Fires in Brooklyn that December. The second was a week or so later when a fire broke out aboard the then-under construction aircraft Carrier USS Constellation (CVA-64) at the Navy Yard.Let us remember all those who perished that December and give thanks for First Responders, past, present and future.
