Church Avenue Trolley Line

October 31, 1956, 66 years ago tomorrow, the Church Avenue Trolley Line stopped running. Although the McDonald Avenue Trolley Line would continue into June, 1957, Flatbush/Brooklyn would never be the same.

A few months before the line shut down, I walked west to east through the underpass at Ocean Parkway. Not a smart thing to do, but I'll attribute it to my age (almost 12) and a friend's dare; however, we did make certain there were no trolley cars nearby. Today, looking at posted videos of the descending and ascending trolley cars makes me thankful I didn't get hurt or killed doing such a dumb thing!
