Vesuvius didn't sell by the slice, so I hardly went there. For the most part, DeSica's on Newkirk Plaza was my "go-to" place along with the Pizza Den next to the Leader (I forget if that was the theater or bowling alley or both) for square slices. My short answer to the pizza quality is NO, not possible. To me, the major part of judging the quality of a slice of pizza depends on whether it is fresh out of the oven for the first time or it had been sitting around long enough for the tomato sauce and cheese to congeal and then is reheated. It's never made to look or taste like new when it's reheated. Back then, no one reheated slices, let alone whole pies. If it sat there too long, they would throw it out. Now everyone reheats them. I know Gino's in Bay Ridge has a good reputation but I went in there some years ago and saw a rack with a bunch of already made and cooked whole pies waiting to be reheated. Well, that's my reheated pizza rant.
