Living in Staten Island, about a 1/2 mile to Raritan Bay, we have seen seals, sunning at Mt Loretto and Great Kills harbor, and whales in the Bay. Apart from declining deer populations due to a castrating project, we have lots of possums, skunks, and raccoons, box and alligator turtles, and last, but not least, a fox was sighted in my neighborhood - although not by me. Several years ago, "parkies" caught Brooklyn park people trying to unload a bunch of deer, saying the deer had come from the Island. Nope! The animals most likely came from Long Island rather than chancing a swim across the whirlpooling Narrows. We get most of our migrating wildlife from New Jersey.
