After all of these years, I just found out from a relative who also rode the Coney Island Avenue trolley, that in 1955, just before that trolley was eliminated, the Coney Island Avenue bus, was actually running on Coney Island Avenue, at the same time that the trolley was. They both ran on that route simultaneously for a few months, until the trolleys were retired. Therefore, commuters (who lived near that line) had four ways to return home from Coney Island, namely subway, bus, trolley, or car.
