There are several drawbridges on the Belt Parkway, in Brooklyn, which have to be raised to allow marine traffic, to pass underneath. In the summer of 1971, the bridge operators in NYC went on strike, and deliberately left the bridges open, making it impossible to travel on the Belt. The cops were called, and they had to find supervisory crews, in an effort to get the bridges to go down. I don't know if those responsible for tampering with the bridges, and deliberately causing additional vehicular problems, were ever prosecuted?
