you are right. When we pitched against a wall we preferred a shaved tennis ball.
We played stickball on ave K and E.32nd st. . The other streets had what we called crabs. They would always call the police and they would take our sawed off broom handle bats. The cops would say they were sorry but had to take them. We learned to hide them in the bushes.
