Those colored balls were not Pinkies and were not made out of the same materials as Pensie Pinkies. They were definitely cheaper and were only good for girls games like jacks or maybe fluke baseball. The Pinkies that I remember throughout the '60s at PS 217 schoolyard were much harder than those colored balls, which didn't even have a name. Pinkies only came in a dark pink, darker than Spaldeens and a little harder. When punched or thrown in fast-pitch stickball, or hit with a stickball bat (never a broom handle), they would go farther and were more reliable than a Spaldeen.
