I was getting ready for work here in Arizona and my wife said a plane had hit the WTC. Like most who got the news that way I assumed it was a civilian prop plane. A little later she told me of the second plane and then I knew it was an attack and I wondered how many more would come. I left for work and then heard about Bush moving to certain air bases, etc. Having served as a Missile Combat Crew Commander in charge of a Titan 2 nuclear missile site I recognized the nature of the moves and thought a strike on our part on someone was in the offing. Fortunately, it did not escalate at that point. I used to watch the skies for a few weeks after that noting that nothing was in the air flying.
