My family had no car while I lived home in 1965. I was 20 and just got my license and car (used 1957 Ford) to set off for my first real job in NJ suburbs.
THEN after I left home my Dad got this license and first car when he was almost 50! It was a new Chevy Malibu.
PS - They wanted to assure that I finish college before family car might prove to be a distraction!
