When she could afford it, my mom bought a late '40s-early 50s Nash Rambler, which turned out to be a junker. In 1957, she got a brand-new Ford Fairlane, and we were finally able to visit my Uncle Eddie and his family, who were the first to leave Brooklyn, without breaking down. I remember when Uncle Eddie bought the tiny Henry J when they moved to Levittown.
