My Grandfather was a N.Y.P.D, detective in the 1930s and 40s. The police department created a Louis Lepke task force to find and capture Mr. Lepke my grandfather was in charge of the task force. An extensive manhunt was conducted in the US, Europe. Palestine and Mexico. Much to my grandfather's, embarrassment Mr. Lepke's last hideout was an apartment house at 1002 Foster ave. My grandfather lived at 1000 Foster ave across the street to add insult to injury my father delivered Mr. Lepke his newspaper every day. In my grandfathers defense, he had six children and was always at the police station and seldom at home.
