I just finished a good book that some of you might enjoy. It's called "Button Man" by Andrew Gross and is about Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, Murder Inc., and the garment industry in NY in the mid 30's to the mid 40's. The HQ's of Murder Inc. was in a candy store at the corner of Livonia and Saratoga Ave. in Brownsville under the IRT Saratoga avenue station and across from the Ambassador theater and the People's Cinema theater. It's fiction based on fact and goes into how Lepke controlled the garment industry unions, and how Thomas Dewey finally got to him. I think anybody growing up in that era would enjoy the book.
