On August 14, 1945, when it was announced by President Harry Truman that Japan finally surrendered, not only was there a tremendous celebration involving thousands of people in Times Square, but there were also spontaneous celebrations held in Sheepshead Bay, and other parts of Brooklyn, with people honking their horns, and otherwise celebrating. There was someone on this board (about two years ago), who stated that as a young boy, he was at the Times Square celebration.
