Barb, I don't mean to date your post, as I this with with all respect. You mentioned a dime for the bus fare; actually, the subway and bus fares, I believe went up to a dime (from a nickel), in 1948; the fares stayed at 10 cents until 1953, when they became fifteen cents, and tokens were required. I think that the fares stayed at 15 cents until the early 1970's, although I may be wrong on that date. I know that in 1966, the then Transit Authority no longer would have its bus drivers make change, as one had to give them the exact change.
