During the polio epidemic we went to Long Island every summer, but I was so young I don't remember where. Later on we lived in Long Beach summers. After that I spent high school summers at Manhattan Beach, in my parent's air-conditioned bedroom, or at the movies. Once I went to college I worked every summer as a camp counselor and got paid to get out of the city's heat. Most of my Brooklyn memories are summer ones; I remember very little of winters!
