Barb-I was at the Parade Grounds one day watching a game and a pudgy catcher (Joe Torre) hit a shot over the CF fence on Diamond 1 onto the walkway .separating Diamonds 1 and 13! He was playing that day for either the Cadets (an elite sandlot organization) or for his School St.Francis Prep-can't remember which team but will never forget that HR! There was a team called the Eagles that played in the Unlimited Division of the PGL along with other fabled organizations-Nathan's Famous, the Bonnies, Gravesend Youth Center, the Seafarers,Cadets, etc-these teams were virtually semipro outfits because they were highly talented and heavly recruited by their teams. Playing Ball was a way of life for a lot of us in those days!
