They cut the time from 12 minutes to 10 minutes citing some old records that show that 10 minutes was the original time. This contest started in 1916. Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi were tied at the end of regulation gorging (59 dogs) which led to a five dog eat off. Chestnut edged out Kobayashi. Kobayoshi later stated he would not retire despite his problems with his arthritic jaw.
