I agree with both Nate and Dave. The fireworks here on Staten Island are out of control: the regular ones start at about 8pm, but the "bombs" go off at 12-1am, waking me out of sleep. I miss sparklers and the smell of the punks, which helped repel mosquitoes. These "dangerous" items were later outlawed along with now mostly-tame by comparison smaller fireworks. Only an hour and a half from where I live, there are fireworks stores galore in northeast Pennsylvania. Last week, $6,000 worth of these dangerous and NOISY items were confiscated by cops here, but every night we still are bombarded for 4-5 hours. It may not be the London Blitz of WWII, but it sure sounds like it.
I miss the freedom and exuberance of my youth. By contrast with the current angry pandemonium of the virus and protesters, looters, and vandals, I miss the peace, regularity, and politeness generally among people. I remember and miss "the customer is always right", whereas now the customer is on the defensive. The media seem to inflame the restless. reckless young who have been confined for over three months, possibly sparking spread of the virus.
