Will, you are correct; Jack Dempsey, the famous boxer, taught physical conditioning to the Coast Guard recruits, at the Coast Guard station in Manhattan Beach, (Brooklyn), in 1942. At that time, he had been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Coast Guard. Later in the war, he was sent to the Pacific theater, and was present onboard the attack ship Middleton, during the invasion of Okinawa in 1945. At that time, Jack was 50 years old.
