As many of us are bored and on Social Media quite a bit more these days, I ran across an old friend from the Class of 1965, PS-89 Flatbush on Face book the other day.

The Class of 1965 was the last 8th grade graduating class. The "kids" behind us started going to Walt Whitman Jr HS when they finished the 5th grade.

The neighborhood we grew up in and the school we learned to read & write in was a special place, as all Brooklyn neighborhoods were. Street games of all types, good neighbors, simple fun times. There are a couple authors on Facebook Brooklyn groups who write about the old days of growing up in Flatbush in the late 50s & 60s. They definitely take you back in time as you read.

The staff of PS 89 made our graduation special from a "Grammar" school. Caps & Gowns, graduation ceremony complete with relatives, even has Class Rings if you wanted to buy one. For many of us, it was the end of innocence. Many went off to Erasmus Hall. We left a school with a class of a hundred kids or so to a freshman class of a thousand. We had to leave the cocoon of our neighborhood.

Who else out there reading this is from the Class of 65 - PS 89? Please check in. Where are you at now? What teachers do you remember...?

I look forward to hear from you....
