It has been nearly fifty years since I ran away to sea.... There are so many things gustatory which I miss, most have already been mentioned here or in past threads. I can no longer recall clearly where or what, but I still miss the springy snap of the sausage case on a great hotdogs in Brooklyn. Was it Nathan's on Stillwell or was it the roller-grilled dogs in storefront "Franks & Drink" stores? (such as that on Fulton Street at Hoyt Street, downtown.) It was not Needicks for I clearly remember their great franks on the funny buns they served. They were very good in their own right, but.... But the long, thin red-hot snappy dogs have never been replicated anywhere else I have lived or traveled. It goes without saying that the institutional franchised name-brand supermarket-sold hotdogs that purport to be "original" do not come close. Someday, perhaps I can get back to Brooklyn. Stillwell Avenue will be the first stop, then a Brooklyn corner Frank stand, should I find any, then anyplace that braggs of Saabbrett hot dogs. Till then, I can dream. ANd there is always Hebrew-National for a close stand-in.
