Pastrami on rye bread, with chopped liver; the last time that we ate that in the NYC area, was in Feb. 2002. We were visiting Ground Zero, only five months after the attack. It was very moving, and the weather was very cold. After visiting a temporary memorial, and spending a while at that site, we took a walk, and found a wonderful deli, a short distance away. I don't remember the street, but I know that deli is no longer there, as we could not locate it on subsequent visits. However, the pastrami on rye (huge portions), plus the chopped liver and pickles were wonderful. Here, in the Midwest, it is next to impossible to eat anything, even remotely similar to what we were served on that day.
