I miss the bright street lights, which illuminated entire city blocks, in Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Where I now live, the residents hate bright street lights, and hence, the local municipality installed street "lights", which are not that bright.
I also miss the 15 cent (and later 30 cent subway fare), which in its day was quite a bargain. I miss the ocean, since I am landlocked, living in the Midwest. Would I move back? I'm not knocking Brooklyn; however, I really don't know if I could take the noise of all of the cars and buses, twenty four hours a day, plus the sirens. Even when I go for a visit, I usually limit it to 2-3 nights. Also, it is very difficult to get used to driving there, after being away for so long. In Brooklyn, motorists start honking their horns for you to proceed, even before the light has changed to green.
I miss the neighborhood candy stores, and the delis, as well as the various services which are no more (i.e. the seltzer man, the egg man, the milk man, the laundry man, etc.). Also, I miss the parkways, where commercial traffic is prohibited. In the Midwest, they don't know what parkways are.
