Steve, I don't remember the bagel shop, but I remember two other bakeries on Avenue J, which were only about two blocks apart; they were both on the northern side of the street, between E. 12th and E. 14th St. There was always the delicious aroma of fresh baked rye bread, which permeated the air, the second one entered those bakeries. There were also many delicacies on the shelves (cakes, cookies, strudel, rolls, etc.), which were there all year round. I think that the bakeries were named Sterns, and Ratchick's. Whenever I entered those bakeries, there were always long lines.
