On Monday, Dec. 19, 1960, only three days after the Park Slope crash of the United DC-8, there was a massive fire onboard the USS Constellation at the Brooklyn Navy yard, resulting in the tragic deaths of fifty civilian navy shipyard workers, and over 300 injuries. Hundreds of firefighters responded, and it took them nearly two days to extinguish the blaze.
