Well I remember the big shuffle during my junior and senior years at Madison brought on by the construction of Sheepshead Bay High and a junior high (I think it was the one attended later by Chris Rock) in advance of the avalanche of Baby Boomers. My later years were on an abbreviated schedule, so I went from 8am to noon daily which was great because I was able to get a part-time job after school. (This schedule included four classes and a gym period.) The class periods went from the original "1-9" to the "1-10 + X, Y, and Z", and individual periods were shortened. The school was mobbed, the spillover coming from area high schools, possibly Lincoln and maybe Midwood. I don't know whether Madison eliminated the freshman class, but my younger sister and her whole 8th-grade graduating class from P.S. 222 had to take their freshman class in 222, foregoing attendance at the "Big House".
