Thanksgiving Treats and Memories

Thanksgiving is almost upon us. This Sunday I'll make a spinach casserole, mulled cider, and sausage stuffing. Those items are a staple now. In the past, turnips, sweet potatoes, and cauliflower were just a few items on the table at the large family gatherings, small portions of which I had to endure as a child and out of politeness.

After everyone left Brooklyn, get-togethers got much smaller, so scaling back and catering to individuals made the dinner more simple. I started making candied sweet potatoes, and even all gussied up, I still didn't like this dish (way too sweet for even this confirmed chocoholic) - although this dish was a big hit and good as a leftover. I also started making green beans almondine - a favorite of mine.

Speaking of sweetness, I love a thin sliver of pecan pie skipping the large dollop of whipped cream (too fattening - Ha?
Ha!). Since words and wishes will not pack on the lbs., what are some of your Thanksgiving favorites, dislikes, and memories?
