Old Neighborhoods - New Names?

Tonight the news said there was shooting in "Gowanus"(?) and Hoyt St. Where is that? The Gowanus Canal or the Gowanus Expressway? To me that neighborhood was either Red Hook or, more likely, South Brooklyn. "The Creek" (Avenue U between Flatbush and East 38th Street) is now "Kings Bay". East of Flatbush Avenue and south of Avenue U to the Belt Parkway was the "Avenue U Docks" with Burns Brothers Coal, later becoming the Kings Plaza Mall and "Mill Basin" (the Mill Basin Bridge over that waterway and would open and on the way to and from Long Island and clogging the Belt, was recently replaced.) Across Flatbush Av to the West, below Avenue U, also to the Belt Pkwy, was the "Old Dutch Farm", whatever that was, is now the Marine Park Golf Course which used to have the NYPD motorcycle station. Whether official or not, what old neighborhoods have been re-named?
