This was then: About 45 years ago, when I first moved to my current home in Princes Bay, I traveled south on Hylan Blvd. As I neared Mt Loretto, I saw Mama and Papa pheasant shepherding their ten little chicks across this wide boulevard to reach the other side.
I know I'm going a little off-topic, but growth is so overwhelming down here (the southern-most point of NYC and NYS) that sometimes when I go to a section that I haven't been to in a while, I have to get my bearings because the area is unrecognizable! Developers are buying up and then demolishing old houses because they generally are on larger lots than the standard 30 or 40 x 100. Where there was formerly one house, it has been replaced by 4-8 "MacMansions" which are usually 2-3 families. (By the way the other day, I happened to look up the population size in the 50s-60s. It was around 165 million. It is now up around 340 million. Since the start of 1900, the population has quadrupled!!!! - Wikipedia.)
