Reminds me of the school's-out theme song, "No more teachers, no more books - No more teacher's dirty looks". I, too, remember we had to stay to the bitter end - June 30 or which ever day ended on a Friday. Even if it was the 27th, we had to come back on Monday, the 30th. This past June, NYC's school ended on Wednesday, June 26th. We always returned to school on the Monday following Labor Day. Now, I believe the kids go back on the Wednesday or Thursday following Labor Day. Change for the sake of change or some bureaucratic rationale?

Remember when Election Day was the first Tuesday in November, and we voted every two or four years unless there was a special election in the case of death - a very rare occasion. Nowadays, it seems like we have elections several times a year.
