Tony, I was last in that neighborhood about 10 years ago. My family Physician, Dr. David J. Prince, of blessed memory, had his office (as well as his private residence),on Westminster Road and Foster Avenue (northeast side). He maintained a practice there from about 1945-1977. In 2009, when I went back to visit Newkirk Plaza, and the surrounding area, I noticed that Dr. Prince's former residence, is now a mosque, as there was as large sign on his former building, identifying it was a mosque. Incidentally, Dr. Prince always answered his own telephone, and no appointment was needed. It was first come, first served. I didn't have to deal with surly reception clerks, either. He always had a watchdog at the top of his stairs, who would bark his head off, whenever patients came in. One time, one of his dogs, who was named "Prince", wouldn't stop barking. Dr. Prince came out of his office, went to the bottom of the stairs and shouted "Prince, I'm here now, now shutup". The dog was afraid of Dr. Prince, and promptly stopped barking. Dr. Prince put in a lot of hours, and would make house calls in the evening. I really miss the personal service, that he rendered, regarding the way that he took care of his patients. Incidentally, a stone's throw from Dr. Prince's office, just to the south on Westminster Road, was a Dentist, named Dr. Gitlen. He told me that his son was Captain of the Midwood High School Football team, in the early 1950's. Incidentally, you mentioned jelly doughnuts. I have fond memories of them, from the Avenue J bakeries; they were extremely delicious!
