Nate, I remember Joseph Trapane quite well. He was our gym teacher at 217 and went to Ditmas when it was completed. He never smiled. I have it in my mind that he was a Marine. At Ditmas, I remember him (and Mr. Farber) climbing the ropes in the Olympic L-position using only their hands. My guess is that he was in his mid- to late- twenties back in '56. If still alive, it wouldn't surprise me if he's fantastic shape for his age. I think he could have been a fantastic teacher, like Mr. Farber, if he could have connected with the students.

As I recall, the gym was on the fifth floor. Walk in a westerly direction down the hall and turn left (south) and it is at the end of the hall, bordering the Coney Island Avenue side of 217. Perhaps, there was another gym on the 3rd floor? I don't know.

It was at 217 that I first saw your cousin, Rose Ascher (another young crush of mine). Did you ever have success in finding her? I know we traded a post or two about her in years past.
