Floyd Bennett Field was the only general aviation airport, in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to Pearl Harbor, that field was used by private planes. I don't know if any commercial flights ever used that field. I have some old 8mm movies, which my Father took in 1938, showing a plane at taking off from that field. He told me that for $5.00, there were sight seeing flights, which would take passengers around the NYC area. He went on one of those flights. I believe that the U.S. Navy took over Floyd Bennett, prior to Pearl Harbor. Also, there may still be some some reserve units there; the Aviation Unit of the NYPD is still there. Years ago, when we would go to Riis Park, we would see fighter jets taking off and landing at Floyd Bennett.
