I also used the library on E17 and J.
The thing I remember most about it is that to get there, usually by bicycle from my apartment building on Webster Avenue, I had to pass that big apartment building on the corner of East 17 and Avenue I that had the fountain sculpture in front. That wasn't my first library, though. It was the Kensington branch. From the outside it looked like a dingy little place under the El on McDonald Avenue near Ditmas. This was in the late '50s.
