The Brooklyn Navy yard fell victim to a going political feud between Brooklyn Congressman Bertrum Podell and L.B.J. Originally the plan was to close either the Boston or Philadelphia Navy yards. The story goes that L.B.J had the Brooklyn Navy closed after Podell criticized the President on the floor of the house.
