yes, i have some thoughts.
the world changes, and you either change with it or you get left behind.
if you own a house its more then likely your biggest investment.
many didnt want to go , but felt they had to go. because their two biggest concerns , diminished property values as well as quality of life soon came to be. and so their concerns were legitimate and not unfounded.
heres where it even gets more bizarre. if you came back you were often not welcomed . many called you a gentrifier and they saw you as a negative influence while others myself included saw it as a positive. because this is america, and everyone has the right to live where they can afford to live.
race hustlers will always look for anyway and every way to make it racial. because they are race hustlers and thats what they do. the reality is those who participated in white flight were only looking to protect their investments and their families.
so often those calling you a gentrifier for coming in, were the same ones accusing you of white flight for leaving. to them its racial to others its financial. if i have people different from me moving in and they raise property values and quality of life as the gentrifiers did, im saying bring it on.
so there are clearly two sides . one side wants to make it racial, and the other financial. some will tell you you were wrong to leave and wrong to come back. but you cant have it both ways. it takes me back to a line from paul simom....anyway you look at this you lose.
