I well remember the day when you had to "call for" the only guy on the block who owned a football. Sometimes this guy was the worst athlete but his parents bought him all the equipment. When he wasn;t available we made a "football out of rolled up newspaper
With regard to the ending of street games; I think this was a results of video games coming to market (same thing with ice cream parlors). Kids don't have to organize anything any more. They just turn on the TV and go from there. Back in the day, Bob F and I spent many an afternoon shooting hoops at the old PS 9.
At the time I think St. Francis with the Stith Bros was the local catholic school to beat.
On another subject:
I'm a little surprised that my "one more post " went totally unanswered.Is it possible that everyone agrees with it? I really doubt that. So I'm a little surprized that no one told me I was all wet
