I moved out of Canarsie less then two years ago. My neighborhood was mostly Haitian.
I lived there for two decades (and over twenty years on Avenue N & East 99th).

It felt like a real neighborhood....everyone friendly. I knew almost everyone on the block.
The houses needed updated and the gardens were blooming. We were invited to parties
and special occasions. Someone talked about church...in the Haitian church my neighbors
had their religious teachings, their social life, their work connections and so much else.
Now they are making their memories........!!! If my landlord hadn't sold his house, I'd
still be there.
