It must be the heat, which reminds me of the Summer of 1957. It was in July when I went to Loew's Kings Theater to see "The Buster Keaton Story" starring Donald O'Connor. I remember it was hot and humid and was so glad to be able to go to the "Low'-eeze" Kings with its fantastic air conditioning. Those Brooklyn summers were terrible!
I was nearly 13 but tried to get in for the lesser cost of a child's admission. (I think it was 35 cents vs. 50 cents.) The ticket lady did not believe that I was under 12, so I had to pop for my first adult ticket. The bargain days were now over. Of course, I'm now on the other side of the curve and I can get into a theater at a discounted senior price.
But, wouldn't I be willing to be back in 1957 at the Kings and have to pay the adult price? Then I could even buy that chocolate Mell-O-Roll ice cream cone at their great snack stand!
