Hi Dave - - - thanks for the correction.
As far as swim teacher(s), I also remember Mr. Lotzman!!!! He was a NUT!!!!
I actually learned to swim under his tutelage in the 89 pool. He had a game he liked to play - I am sure you remember it. He would have half the class stand alongside the pool - the other half of the class was in the water. The boys in the water were instructed to swim to the deep end. The boys on the edge had dodge balls, which were used to hit the swimmers.
He called the game "Bombardment!"
When you are a fledging swimmer, in the freezing waters of the 89 pool - swimming for your life - the last thing you need was to be hit in the head - hard - with a dodge ball.
Now, the Mr. Ray I was speaking about was a gentleman. Spoke softly, taught us different games to play and enrolled us all, in the 8th grade, in the Red Cross Junior Life Savers Program. He made me the strong swimmer I was to become - even today.
I graduated in 1965 - what a difference a couple years made!!
