The blizzard that we heard about was the 18888 ('88).
My maternal grandfather was born during it and my paternal grandfather (born 1n 1885) told us stories he had from his relatives about how it left great drifts and from 50 inch snows.
He was the youngest boy in his family and was 8 years old when his mother died and he went to live with an aunt and uncle. He left school at age 12 and worked for his aunt driving horse and wagons. His mother's family came to Brooklyn from Ireland during the famine.
